When and where are your meetings?
Our meetings are open to anyone interested in Bulldogs. Non-members are welcome to attend our programs on specific bulldog-related topics, our matches, and our shows. We meet on the third Friday of the month at 7:30 P.M. in the Woodbridge Community Center, 600 Main Street, Woodbridge, NJ 07095. The date and time of meetings, planned agenda items and the directions to the meetings can be found on our meeting page.
Breeder referral for the Club is handled by the Secretary. At each meeting, the Secretary asks if anyone has puppies or dogs ready to be placed. Based on these self-referrals, the club will let people know about the availability of the puppies or dogs. While all referrals are made to members of the Club, neither the Club nor the Secretary has evaluated the litters and makes any specific or implied warranties or representations about the puppies or dogs that may be available. Each breeder sets their own terms of sale and cost for the puppies or dogs. It is important that you get to know your breeder and feel comfortable with them and the puppy you pick. You can get more information on how to select a dog or a puppy by checking out the section on our site about Choosing a Dog, which not only describes the selection of a Bulldog, but lets you know what to: plan for the dog's homecoming; expect as the dog matures; and do to get an experienced Bulldog vet. Before you get your dog, you should also familiarize yourself with the section of the site on Raising a Dog. Our Secretary, Dorothy Prager, can be reached at 215-679-3302 or on-line via E-mail.
The Bulldog Club of New Jersey (BCNJ) Club was founded in 1936. We meet monthly in Edison, NJ and are governed by the members under the leadership of the Club Officers and Board of Governors. We are a specialty club, which means we the only dogs involved our activities are Bulldogs, as defined by the Bulldog Club of America and by the American Kennel Club.
An applicant for membership must be sponsored by a member in good standing. After the application is read at two meetings, the candidate’s membership is voted on, with acceptance by majority vote. Each new member is sent a packet which includes a copy of the Constitution and By-Laws, the Manual of Operations and a description of events held during the year.
The Club holds two AKC Sanctioned Match Shows with Futurities each year, one in July and one in February. Two licensed AKC point shows are held annually: next year they will be held in conjunction with the New Brunswick Kennel Club Show in March.
BCNJ is a member of the Bulldog Club of America (BCA), the parent Club in the United States. Information on BCA Division I can be found on the Division web site. There are eight divisions in BCA. We are in Division I, which is composed of BCNJ, the Bulldog Club of Philadelphia, the Long Island Bulldog Club, the Lower Susquehanna Bulldog Club, the Bulldog Club of Connecticut, the Bulldog Club of New England, and the Bulldog Club of Pittsburgh.
BCNJ is concerned with the education of pet owners and breeders alike. The club encourages responsible pet ownership, in part through programs at meetings and the Gazette, our newsletter, which is sent to every member and through an active rescue program. Each year we have social events, including a Holiday party at which championship medals are awarded to members whose dogs have earned conformation or obedience titles, a Spring auction of bulldog collectibles, and a covered dish dinner in June.
If you go to the Membership page, you will find an application you can print out and submit. The application must have the endorsement of a member of the club. If you submit the application by mail, make sure the member signs it before you submit it or have the member who is endorsing your application notify the Secretary of his or her endorsement. The check for dues must be received by the Secretary before action will be taken on the application.
